A Wall is a structure that defines specific Field / Area, Provide protection, Retain Load, shelter; or is increase the decoration. There are many types of walls in construction, usually made of concrete, brick, masonry, or wood structure.
Types of Wall
- Partition Wall
- Retaining Wall
- Precast Compound Wall
- Stone Wall
- Brick Wall
There are two types of Wall
- Load Bearing Wall
Load Bearing Walls are responsible to bear load or weight of Structure, Roof, Filling or any other types of load
- Non-Load Bearing Wall
Non-Load Bearing Walls are not bearing any kind of load and it used to cover, partition or decoration purpose
Partition Wall
Partition Walls are used to make partition or separate the Room or building. Partition walls are also called as Interior Wall and are usually thin wall. Partition walls are usually Non-Load Bearing type, and can be made with cloth, Brick, Steel, Blocks, Glass, Clay, Wood, Concrete or other material
Retaining Wall
Retaining walls are used to retain earth fill or any other material, Generally used for supporting or retaining two different levels of soil.
Types of Retaining Wall
Gravity, Pilling, Cantilever and Anchored wall are the types of Retaining Wall
Gravity Wall
Gravity wall is a type of retaining wall. It can be built in rocky or hard land where one can not excavate or dig easily. It is blessing for you if your land or site is on hilly area. It can be construed with concrete, stone or masonry block. It is best up-to height of 15 feet and generally used in bridges. Gravity walls are using its own weight to holding the soil
Cantilever Wall
Cantilever walls are also known as concrete retaining walls. You can use cantilever wall at height of only upto 5.5 meter. If you need height 5.5 or grater than 5.5 meter height, then you should go with counterfort retaining wall. Steam, Toe slab and Heel slab are consist in the cantilever retaining wall. Top width of steam is generally 200mm and bottom width of steam is designed for maximum bending moment due to horizontal earth pressure, width of the retaining wall is always 0.5 of the height of retaing wall to 0.6 of the height of retaing wall for wall without surcharge
Precast Compound Wall
Precast Compound Walls are generally made from Precast Concrete, manufacturing at factory and shipped it to site location where need it. very faster in installation, cost effective, saving space and project cost. There are many benefits so, engineers are generally prefer for precast compound wall where project suites for It.
Generally solar power plants Grounds are covers with Precast Wall because high megawatt power plants are structured in very large ground and acres of land. Precast compound wall construction saves approximate 6 to 8 month of time
Stone Wall
Stone Walls are masonry type of construction. First stone wall constructed by Kisaan / Farmers by piling loose field stones and then after plaster were used. Old castles, Defense walls were constructed with stone walls. in 15th century and before century, stone walls were spread worldwide with different forms.
Now-a-days stone walls are not much popular because, it takes too much cost and construction time. Many other ideas of building and construction have been found through technology and research
Brick Wall
Brick Wall is masonry type of Construction produced by layer of bricks. Brick size may vary by location. Brick Wall and brickwork Construction is popular from c. 3300–1200 BC. Mohenjo-daro were build with bricks around 2600 BC. Now a days Generally Buildings are made by Brickwork, Precast partition and Precast concrete technology have taken place of brickwork in recent days
